What I love about the ocean
is her wildness
No man can tame her
She has her rhythms -
The waves pushing and pulling at the shore
The tides marking time with an ancient pulse
The deep currents flowing in determined arcs
to the spin of the planet
What I love about the ocean
is her wildness
No man can tame her
She has her softness -
The invitation to sink within her silky depths
To discover the wonders below, newly imagined
To arise transformed, eternally reshaped
fragile alchemical form
What I love about the ocean
is her wildness
No man can tame her
She has her might -
Quietly eroding the shore
caressing it away one delicate grain of sand at a time
Or ripping it asunder in one
cataclysmic crescendo of movement
She expands and spills
into - over - out
Washing away what was once solid and known
leaving new, unfamiliar landscape
What I love about the ocean
is her wildness
No man can tame her
She is free -
Fully sovereign
her ancient command undeniable
And I submit,
her faithful servant
Bringing forth what she offers
Her sea salt blood in my veins
